A storm of epic proportions is currently bidding my friend Ruth farewell. She starts culinary school in Napa next week, so I figured I’d dedicate this week’s postcard (of Ruthie’s Run) in her honor. Hooray for friends on powder days!

Late 2009 brought a few assignments from Western Art & Architecture and I’m happy to say the issue is finally in my hands… nothing better than seeing your work laid out on glossy pages.

In their Winter/Spring issue, I go behind the scenes with sculptor and world-renowned taxidermist Michael Boyce of Animal Artistry to visit his home studio and discuss his latest venture into the art world: oil painting. I also interviewed big-time wildlife and sporting art collectors Alan and Nancy Maiss on what inspires them to collect. Read the stories here:

Grandma Daisy turns 90 today! How lucky I am to have such an amazing person in my life… I can’t begin to list all the things I’ve learned from her. She is truly the best! Her love of nature trumps all, and I have the best memories of digging and poking around in the dirt with her. She can name every plant in her yard, is a voracious reader and has the sweetest heart. Here’s to another 10 years in the garden grandma!

My birthday gift to her this year is this mountain goat block print since my mom told me Daisy had started referring to herself as a mountain goat. he he!

CARTOGRAPHER: Idaho Geological Survey

SENDER: Lyndsey, my former college roommate and a geologist who was working on her thesis at the time. She figured I was missing some “good ‘ole geology.” I was, and still am.

*The postcard’s back says you can get the color poster (14 by 20 inches) of this card by sending $3 along with your name and address to the Idaho Geological Survey, Morrill Hall, Third Floor, University of Idaho, Moscow, ID 83844-3014. Anyone wanna try?

Well, not here in Tahoe at the moment, but in my Etsy shop: I just posted a listing for my snowflake card set. The stamp was one of my first creations, and I used it for Christmas gift wrap decorating. Now, it can be yours in a few short clicks!

Also, stay tuned for the January 12 unveiling of a super exciting design I completed last night!

*Thought we’d finish off the year with this Southern delicacy since I just bade my mom and brother goodbye after their Christmas visit to Tahoe.

SENDER: Mom, who asks if I’m hungry for the South :)
